About Us
A FATHER AND A SON
Saltline was founded by a father and son who share three things: a love of the ocean, a habit of traveling, and a stubborn preference for pieces that outlast the trend that produced them.
The traveling is what started it. Furniture that looks right in a hotel courtyard in Java or on a terrace above the Pacific tends to have something in common — it is made of something real, it is built to be left outside, and it gets better rather than worse with age. That is harder to buy than it should be.
So we went and found it at the source.

WHERE OUR TEAK COMES FROM
Most outdoor furniture tells you it is made of teak. Very few can tell you where that teak grew.
Ours comes from community forests in Central Java — hutan rakyat — where teak is grown by smallholders on their own land, often intercropped with food, and cut selectively when a tree is ready rather than on an industrial rotation. It is a different economic relationship from plantation forestry, and the wood is traceable back to the district it came from.
Every shipment carries SVLK certification, Indonesia’s timber legality system, documenting the chain of custody from forest to container. We can tell you where our teak came from. Most importers cannot.

WHY THE PIECES ARE NAMED THE WAY THEY ARE
Cepu. Blora. Rembang. Jepara. Pati. These are not invented words — they are districts of Central Java where teak grows and where furniture has been made for generations. Jepara in particular has been a carving town for centuries; the Javanese furniture trade was largely built there.
Naming each piece for a place keeps the origin attached to the object. A Cepu Lounge Chair is not a marketing name. It is a reminder that the wood came from somewhere specific, and that someone grew it.
Â
HOW THE FURNITURE IS BUILT
Solid teak throughout — no veneer, no engineered substitute. Woven seats use Viro HDPE rope, a named Italian cord that is UV stabilized and sheds water rather than absorbing it. Cushions are filled with quick-dry foam, so an afternoon of rain does not cost you the evening. Umbrellas are teak and brass throughout, with no aluminum or steel in the frame.
Every piece carries an aged brass plate. It is a small thing, but it is the detail that says someone decided how this should be finished rather than defaulting to whatever was cheapest.
Â
WHAT TO EXPECT OVER TIME
Teak left outdoors weathers from honey to silver-gray, usually within the first year. This is the wood protecting itself, not failing. Oil it if you prefer the warmer tone, or leave it alone and let it go gray — either is correct, and neither affects how long it lasts.
A teak frame will outlast its cushions several times over. That is why we sell cushions as their own products, in every fabric, rather than making you replace a chair because the seat wore out.

GETTING IN TOUCH
We are a small operation in Santa Fe Springs, California. If you want to know something specific about a piece — the timber, the joinery, when the next container lands — email info@saltlinefurnishings.com and you will get a straight answer from someone who knows.
